Daniel & Emily | Celtic-Inspired Celebration at Rocklea Farm

When Emily and Daniel began planning their wedding, discovering the perfect Geelong wedding venue right on Emily’s childhood doorstep felt like fate. Growing up just ten minutes down the road from Rocklea Farm, Emily loved the idea of celebrating locally, bringing their loved ones together for an unforgettable day that blended rugged romance, Australian nature, and spirited Celtic tradition.
From Cradle Mountain to Native Country Styling
Daniel and Emily’s love story is rooted in the outdoors. Early in their relationship, the pair tackled Tasmania’s rugged Overland Track together—an adventure that proved their partnership was built to last. Daniel later sealed the deal with a proposal during a getaway to Cradle Mountain.
When bringing their wedding vision to life, Rocklea Farm proved to be the ultimate DIY wedding venue, giving them the creative freedom to design a celebration true to their style. The couple drew direct inspiration from the surrounding countryside, styling the space with native Australian floral arrangements that harmonized seamlessly with our rustic timber and iron features.
Bringing Celtic Energy to the Barn Dance Floor
Music and heritage took centre stage from the ceremony right through to the reception. Emily walked down the aisle to the beautiful Irish melody ‘Inisheer,’ performed live by local violin and cello duo Cathy and Catie Strings.
As a cheeky nod to their shared careers as educators, the newlyweds made their grand reception entrance through the barn doors to ABBA’s ‘When I Kissed the Teacher.’ From there, the celebration kicked into high gear. Keen to honour their shared passion for Celtic culture, Daniel and Emily treated their guests to a live band and a high-energy ceilidh that packed out the barn dance floor. For their first dance, they chose Skerryvore’s ‘Take My Hand,’ a tune they had fallen in love with after seeing the band live at the Melbourne Celtic Festival.
Feasts, Golden Hour, and Planning Wisdom
To keep energy levels high for hours of dancing, the couple opted for a hearty buffet-style feast by Coast to Coast Golden Roast, followed by an indulgent dessert bar lovingly crafted by their parents—another personal touch highlighting the charm of a flexible DIY wedding venue.
While the packed barn dance floor and emotional family speeches were standout highlights, the couple also treasured the slower interludes throughout the evening. They took time out to breathe in the bridal suite and slipped away for portraits across the property during golden hour. Daniel and Emily highlighted the value of hiring local vendors, noting that Ash Hughes Photography knew the venue’s best angles and light pockets to capture every memory effortlessly.
Their number one tip for future couples? Start the planning process early, especially if you are taking on custom and DIY styling projects.
Reflecting on their journey, Daniel and Emily shared that the attention to detail and calm communication from Glen, Dave and the Rocklea team kept them relaxed from initial walkthroughs to the final goodbyes. For them, it was truly the best day of their lives—and we couldn’t be prouder to have set the stage as their chosen Geelong wedding venue.
